It is not easy to understand the real aims of SC Claudianum and the prohibition it enforced of the member of the senatorian aristocrazy to posess (and evidently exploit) bigger cargo for the maritime transport. The limit was that of 300 anforae, allowing the presumably transport of the agrarian productos of their land-properties. The a. tries to understand the effective aims of the law and, consequently, the reasons of its relatively long life until the second half of the last century of the Republic.
