Resumen de Der Haussohn als Senator

Wolfram Buchwitz

  • This contribution analyses the dichotomous position of a senator who is still a filius familias. Although he may enjoy ample political powers, his position in the family remains subordinate to his father who holds the family property. The Roman jurists tried to attenuate this situation by granting the son more freedom to maked donations and to stand in court. An analysis of these cases sheds light not only on the socioeconomic position of the filius familias senator, but also on the methodology of the Roman jurists.
