Resumen de El Purgatorio de San Patricio ¿tradición o invención? Rituales, peregrinaciones y viajes al otro mundo en Irlanda en el siglo XII

El presente estudio analiza la tradición del Purgatorio irlandés a través de la literatura del siglo XII que hace referencia al término “Purgatorio de San Patricio”. En este periodo, Irlanda vive una serie de cambios en el plano político y religioso que son impulsados por la invasión cambro-normanda. Asimismo, este proceso tuvo consecuencias en el ámbito literario, donde encontramos autores de origen extranjero que se dedicaron en extenso a relatar los milagros y maravillas de Irlanda. Algunos de estos relatos extraordinarios se centraron en espacializar el Purgatorio en la geografía irlandesa y asociarlo a la figura de San Patricio.

In this paper, we analyze the tradition of Irish Purgatory through the twelfth century literature to speaks of the concept “Saint Patrick's Purgatory”. In this period, Ireland is undergoing a series of political and religious changes that are driven by the Cambro-Norman invasion. Also, this process had consequences in the literary field, where we find authors of foreign origin who dedicated themselves extensively to recount the miracles and wonders of Ireland. Some of these extraordinary accounts had as a reason to spatializing Purgatory in Irish geography and associate it with the figure of St. Patrick.
