Antidepressant drugs differ in their relative toxicities. The most hazardous are tricyclics, citalopram, venlafaxine and the rarely used monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Features include arrhythmias and convulsions. Management should reduce arrhythmia risk by aggressive correction of acidosis and use of sodium bicarbonate to shorten the QRS duration, if prolonged.
