Resumen de Family And Education: A Gender Approach For Young Adults At Ages 16 To 25 In Spain From 2002 To 2013

Juan Antonio Cañada Vicinay

  • This paper analyzes the education attainment of girls and boys cohabiting with parents aged 16 to 25 in Spain during the period 2002—2013, and focuses on those living in vulnerable households. Multinomial logit estimates show that the educational attainment of boys is more linked to household characteristics, whereas girls are more self dependent and they concurrently exhibit more efficient educational paths. The treatment of the economic situation provides a new result, which is that successive generations show opposing trends in educational attainment; when parents increase then the children decrease; also, and simultaneously, the preceding generation has a strong positive effect on the subsequent generation.
