  • Resumen
    • EDSAC 2 is provided with a ferrite core high speed store and has, in addition, magnetic tape for auxiliary storage. At present there are two magnetic tape units; this number will be increased to four, and could be increased further if required. Control of the tapes is shared between the control unit of the machine and the program. Tapes are divided into addressable blocks and information can be transferred from any one of these blocks to the high speed store, or vice versa, by means of orders in the program. The lengths of the various blocks on the tape can be determined by the programmer. Facilities are provided whereby a particular block can be brought into position for reading or writing while computation is proceeding.
