La minería en el Norte Chico de Chile posee una considerable tradición y una importancia económica insoslayable. En efecto, alrededor de bienes de raigambre minera asociados a valores históricos y testimoniales se observan procesos de valoración, que les señalan como referentes simbólicos y posibles agentes de desarrollo local. El artículo describe y analiza cuatro de los procesos de patrimonialización más definidos que actualmente se detectan en ese espacio territorial. De esta forma, se exponen las funciones, las complementariedades, las sinergias, las carencias y las proyecciones que esas dinámicas están teniendo en las regiones que conforman esa área del país.

The mining industry in Chile´s Norte Chico has a deeply-rooted history and has historically been of key importance to the economy of the region. In recent years the cultural and historical values associated with these mining activities have undergone a reappraisal, which has established their importance as symbols of regional identity which can play a role in the development of the local economy. This paper describes and analyses four of the most important projects underway to preserve the cultural heritage of this region, thereby allowing us to examine the way in which the projects are being implemented, how they complement other projects, potential synergies, as well as to pinpoint further work that needs to be done and to assess the impact that these projects are having in the different areas that comprise this region of the country.
