    Partiendo de una aproximación a la discusión sobre el concepto de identidad nacional en Latinoamérica y en Venezuela, este artículo presenta el análisis de algunas fotografías pertenecientes a diversas series realizadas por Alexander Apóstol a principios del siglo XXI, en las que de manera implícita reflexiona sobre este tema. Los temas específicos tratados en estas obras son: a) el hecho de haber querido frenéticamente alcanzar la modernidad y no haberlo logrado y b) el culto al héroe y a otros símbolos estereotipados que identifican a los venezolanos y que este artista critica irónicamente en la serie fotográfica Ensayando la postura nacional.

    Starting from an approximation to the concept of national identity in Latin America and Venezuela, this article analyzes some photographs of several series made by Alexander Apóstol in the early years of this century, in which he implicitly reflects on Venezuelan national identity. In those photographs, he specifically deals with two aspects: a) the frantic quest for modernity, which the country never reached and b) the cult to heroes and to other stereotyped symbols that are part of the Venezuelan identity that the artist criticizes ironically in his series view of these two aspects in the series Rehearsing the National Posture.
