    El objetivo de este artículo es estudiar diferentes aspectos de la leyenda sobre la ciudad de Tombuctú formada en el imaginario occidental y sus causas. Además, se compara la leyenda y el mito con la realidad de la ciudad: contexto del país, su nombre, geografía, historia, elemento humano, patrimonio, manuscritos y bibliotecas, la etnia de los Arma (conexión con España).

    The objective of this paper is to study different aspects about the legend on the Timbuktu’s city emerged in the Western imagination and its causes. In addition, the paper compres the legend and the myth with the reality of the city: context of the country, its name, geography, history, human element, patrimony, manuscripts and libraries, the ethnic group of Arma (connection with Spain).
