Regras descritivas ocidentais e violência contra a mulher por parceiro íntimo

    This study was a replication of Costa and Gomes (2014) and aimed at verifying the compliance with prescriptive rules related to aggressive behavior against women. The questionnaire was administered in the cities of Juazeiro, Bahia, and Petrolina, Pernambuco, Brazil to 223 students of both genders and on different education levels, including Elementary School, Junior High School, High School, and College. The questionnaire had 32 statements containing descriptive rules related to violence against women. For each item, the participant marked their agreement or disagreement on a scale that ranged from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree, they also could write if they knew anyone who agrees, and add any comments. Data were analyzed quantitatively by descriptive frequency analysis, more specifically, using Pearson r test and Student t test.

    Correlations ranging from weak to moderate were found between Education Level and some categories on the questionnaire, in the sense that participants on levels under College showed more agreement with prescriptive rules related to aggressive behavior against women. Education Level surpassed the Gender variable on the correlation with agreement although there were some differences on gender independent on the level of education. These results suggest the importance of education on the reversion in the context of violence and besides it point to the curious fact that the agreement with rules related to violence against women can be found even between women, especially on itens related to jealousy and love. On the other hand, it is worth to note that other variables, like age and income, which could interact with Education Level, were not investigated separately in this work.

    Este estudo foi uma replicação de Gomes e Costa (2014) e objetivou verificar a concordância com regras descritivas relacionadas a comportamentos violentos contra a mulher. Foram aplicados 223 questionários a estudantes do Ensino Fundamental II, Médio e Superior de ambos os sexos, das cidades de Juazeiro-BA e Petrolina-PE. O questionário consistiu em 32 afirmativas relacionadas à violência contra a mulher. Para cada item, o participante deveria assinalar sua concordância ou discordância em uma escala que variava de Concordo Totalmente a Discordo Totalmente e assinalar se conhecia alguém que concorde, e ainda poderia escrever algum comentário. Os dados foram analisados por meio de análises descritivas de frequência e testes da estatística inferencial. Foram encontradas correlações fracas a moderadas entre Escolaridade e concordância com determinados itens, sendo que não universitários apresentaram maior concordância do que universitários. A variável escolaridade se mostrou significativa quando à concordância, inclusive superando a variável gênero. Isso indica que a concordância com regras relacionadas à violência contra a mulher pode ser encontrada inclusive entre as próprias mulheres e aponta para a importância da educação na reversão da violência. Porém, não foram avaliadas isoladamente outras variáveis que possam interagir com o nível educacional, tais como renda.
