New Latin fragments dealing with the building of the Roman fort at Azraq (Jordan) specify the nature of the work done at this site of the steppe in ad 333. Their publication provides an opportunity to have a fresh look at Azraq’s epigraphical dossier. It allows also to trace the career of a duke who was both active in Provincia Arabia and responsible for the border troops stationed throughout the diocese of Oriens during the reign of Constantine. In a field where precisely dated documents are rare, the study adds a new dimension to our understanding of the Late Roman army.

De nouveaux fragments latins relatifs à la construction du fort romain d’Azraq (Jordanie) précisent la nature des travaux réalisés dans ce site de la steppe en 333. Leur publication donne l’occasion de revenir sur le dossier épigraphique d’Azraq. Elle permet aussi de retracer la carrière d’un duc qui fut à la fois actif dans la province d’Arabie et responsable des troupes frontalières stationnées dans le diocèse d’Orient sous le règne de Constantin. Dans un domaine où les documents précisément datés sont rares, l’étude complète nos connaissances sur l’armée romaine tardive.
