Resumen de Decisiones de formación de la pareja y maternidad en las mujeres españolas

El objetivo del presente trabajo de investigación es analizar los factores que influyen en la decisión de la primera convivencia en pareja y, posteriormente, los factores que determinan la probabilidad de que una mujer tenga su primer, segundo o tercer hijo, para un conjunto de mujeres españolas nacidas entre 1961 y 1980. Para alcanzar este objetivo se ha explotado la Encuesta de Fecundidad, Familia y Valores (2006) realizada por el Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas. La estrategia empírica ha consistido en distintos modelos de probabilidad en tiempo discreto, que permiten el control por la heterogeneidad inobservada. Los resultados muestran, entre otros detalles, que las mujeres con mayor nivel educativo y las de cohortes más recientes retrasan más la primera convivencia en pareja y la primera maternidad. Sin embargo, una vez que han tenido su primer hijo, el nivel educativo no parece marcar grandes diferencias en las sucesivas paridades.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the determinants of the first union formation and, then, the factors that determine the probability of Spanish women having their first, second or third child, for a set of Spanish-born females between 1961 and 1980. We use the Fertility, Family and Values Survey of 2006, conducted by the Sociological Research Centre in 2006. The multivariate technique deployed consists in different discrete-time duration models that enable control for unobserved heterogeneity. The results show, among other things, that highly educated women and women from more recent cohorts are more likely to delay the first union and the first maternity. However, once their first child has been born, educational attainment does not seem to make a big difference in successive parities.
