Resumen de Algunas aportaciones de la demografía histórica en el occidente de México: Siglos XVIII y XIX

El presente trabajo pretende hacer una breve revisión de los estudios que se han hecho en el campo de la demografía histórica en el occidente de nuestro país, especialmente para la ciudad de Guadalajara y el estado de Jalisco, a lo largo de los siglos XVIII y XIX. Existen a la fecha valiosas investigaciones que nos permiten adentrarnos al conocimiento de los niveles, tendencias, y factores del cambio demográfico de las poblaciones que nos antecedieron en esta región. En este artículo, he tratado de revisar los dos temas que considero han sido trabajados con mayor dedicación para Guadalajara y su región, a saber: la mortalidad y la estructura familiar. Intento revisar también algunas de las hipótesis planteadas y los hallazgos más relevantes.

This paper intends to do a brief review of the studies that have been accomplished in the field of historical demography in the western region of our country, especially in the city of Guadalajara and the state of Jalisco during the 18th and 19th centuries. There are several valuable studies that allows us to delve into the knowledge of the levels, trends, and factors of the demographic change in the populations that preceded us in the region. I have organized this paper, trying to review the two topics that I believe have been studied with more dedication for Guadalajara and its region: mortality and family structure. I intend to review some of the hypothesis proposed and the most relevant findings.
