El actual Museo de la Rioja, instalado en un palacio construido a mediados del siglo XVIII por don Pedro Ruiz de la Porta, Regidor Perpetuo de la Ciudad de Logroño, fue inaugurado en 1971 aunque tiene su origen, como otros muchos museos provinciales, en el S. XIX como consecuencia de la Ley de Desamortización de Mendizábal de 1835. En él se ofrece un recorrido por la historia de la provincia, desde la prehistoria hasta la edad contemporánea.
Su exposición, con recorrido en tres plantas, tiene como hilo conductor la vida de sus gentes, sus modos de vida, su trabajo y sus creencias, y cómo se ha materializado a lo largo de los siglos en útiles y herramientas funcionales para resolver el quehacer cotidiano, o en grandes creaciones artísticas para expresar sus inquietudes religiosas o estéticas.
El continuo crecimiento de sus colecciones ha motivado su ampliación y nuevo montaje con las técnicas de museografía más actuales que permiten adaptar el guión al espacio expositivo. Los proyectos han sido realizados por José Miguel León para la construcción de un edificio de nueva planta y restauración del Palacio, y por Pedro Feduchi para el Proyecto Museográfico.

The current Museum of La Rioja, housed in a palace built in the mid-18th Century was opened in 1971. It was erected by Pedro Ruiz de la Porta, perpetual alderman of the City of Logroño although it has its originin the XIX Century -tike many other provincial museums in Spain- due to the Ecclesiastical confiscations of Mendizábal between 1835 and 1837. It offers a tour of the history of the province, from Prehistory to the Late Modern Period.
The exhibition, in three different floors, has as a common topic: the daily life of the people, their ways of Iife, their work and beliefs, and how all these topics have been materialized into useful and functional tools over the centuries in order to solve the daily tasks and duties, or into great artistic creations to express their religious or aesthetic concerns.
The persistent growth of the collections has motivated its expansion and reassembly with the latest museography techniques that allow the script to be adapted to the exhibition space. The construction of a new building and restoration projects of the Palace have been carried out by José Miguel León and Pedro Feduchi has taken over the Museographic General Project.
