  • The concept of commitment is not a new one. It still it begs the question of its application across the literary landscape. Perhaps within the postcolonial context ambiguity may arise as a new challenge, especially in areas of culture and ideologies. Would not the idea of resistance be a better fit when it comes to postcolonial literature? How about the possibility of a wilful disengagement? It is usually francophone authors who take a stand, with theory questions as well as issues of literary production or exile. However, the issue of resistance holds its own dialectics, around the power of representation and national imaginaries.
