Resumen de Caninos superiores retenidos horizontales y orientados hacia labial: Casos clínicos

Los caninos superiores con erupción ectópica horizontal y dirigidos hacia labial son muy raros y apenas están descritos en la literatura mundial. Decimos «retenidos» porque podrían erupcionar con el tiempo, ya que no hay nada que lo impida. En inglés también se usa el término non-erupted («no erupcionados»). Al observar las imágenes tridimensionales se puede apreciar que el germen de estos caninos no se forma en su posición normal, por debajo de la órbita y próximo a la apertura piriforme, sino en un lugar palatino a las raíces del segundo premolar e incluso del primer molar. En realidad, parece como si desde ese punto el canino tratase de alcanzar su posición normal en la arcada dentaria. La evolución de estos caninos puede alterar la forma o el tamaño de las raíces de los primeros premolares. En este artículo se presentan cuatro de estos caninos tratados en tres pacientes. A pesar de su apariencia, estos tratamientos requieren habilidad y paciencia, pero no resultan muy difíciles

The upper canines with horizontal ectopic eruption directed to labial are very unusual and seldom described in the literature. We say, “retained” because they could erupt as there is nothing preventing it. In English we could also use the term “non-erupted”. Observing the tridimensional images, it is possible to realize that the germ of these canines does not originate in its normal position under the orbit and near the apertura piriforne, but in a site palatal to the roots of the second premolar or even of the first molar. It looks as if from that point the canine is trying to reach its normal position within the dental arch. The evolution of these canines could alter the form or the size of the first premolar’s roots. We are showing four of these canines treated in three patients. Although this kind of case seems to be very difficult, with ability, observation, and lots of patience really they are not so difficult.
