Resumen de Diagnóstico multitemporal de las áreas ambientalmente sensibles a la desertificación en la provincia del Azuay a partir del año 1982

  El presente estudio indaga en la documentación existente, información que permita evaluar históricamente el proceso de desertificación con un análisis multitemporal y multicriterio mediante sistemas de información geográfica (SIG), para determinar los lineamientos necesarios para revertir, controlar y prevenir el este proceso en la provincia del Azuay. En el periodo 1982 y 2008, las áreas no susceptibles a la desertificación disminuyeron en un 2,28 %, y las zonas con susceptibilidad potencial en un 3,75 %; mientras que las áreas frágiles aumentaron en 0,71 %, y las áreas con susceptibilidad crítica en 5,32 %

  This research highlights the importance of desertification due to economic, social and environmental impacts (Poch, 2011; Abraham y Torres, 2007; Reynolds y Stafford, 2002), and how efforts to determine the magnitude and impact of desertification in the country are very limited. It examines existing documentation that allows for a historical evaluation of the process of desertification through geographic information systems (GIS) and multitemporal and muticriteria analysis, to determine the steps needed to revert, control, and prevent this process in the Azuay province. In the periods between 1982 and 2008, regions not vulnerable to desertification decreased by 2.28 %, highly vulnerable regions decreased by 3.75 %, while fragile regions increased by 0.71 % and those with critical vulnerability increased by 5.32 %.
