Sionisme et judaïsme: la difficile et fragile autonomie du politique

    Politics has always had an ambiguous status in the Jewish world. Acknowledged as necessary and specific in the organization of the city, politics at the ideological level has nevertheless a peripheral status compared to the spiritual, ethical and religious fields. The distancing of politics, reinforced during the age of diaspora, explains the deep reluctance that Zionism has met with even within Judaism. Zionism aims to bring Jews directly into modern politics by providing them with a State. This primary objective of constructing a secular state met with religious criticism which either radically rejected Zionism or accommodated to it, pragmatically at first, and then legitimizing it theologically ( Rav Kook). For religious Zionism there remains one major problem : the extreme difficulty of recognizing the state of Israel as the materialization of a basically political project.

    La politique a eu, dès l'origine, un statut ambigu dans le monde juif. Reconnu comme une instance spécifique et nécessaire pour organiser la cité, le politique a pourtant, au niveau idéologique, un statut périphérique par rapport au spirituel, à l'éthique, au religieux. Cette mise à distance du politique, encore renforcée durant la période diasporique, explique les réticences profondes que le projet sioniste a rencontrées au sein même du judaïsme. Le sionisme s'est en effet proposé d'inscrire les Juifs au cœur même du politique moderne en les dotant d'un Etat. Cet objectif prioritaire de construction d'un Etat séculier a eu affaire à une critique d'essence religieuse qui a rejeté radicalement le sionisme ou s'en est accommodé, pragmatiquement d'abord, puis en le légitimant théologiquement (Rav Kook). Pour le sionisme religieux, un problème majeur subsiste néanmoins : l'extrême difficulté de reconnaître l'Etat d'Israël comme la matérialisation d'un projet avant tout politique.
