    The cuneiform Babylonian tablet BM 74329, the colophon of which quotes Gyges, king of Sardis, is a translation of a Lydian cosmogony. But the text was also used in anuual rituals. The myth is structurally akin to Greek Gyges' stories, i.e. Herodotus' !nquiry 1 7 sqq. and Plato's Republic 359 b-c. The great importance of BM 74329 (or more exactly, of its prototype) is to begin a political thinking about what is the power of a man alone

    La tablette écrite en babylonien, BM 74329, dont le colophon cite le roí de Sardes, Gyges, est une traduction d'une cosmogonie lydienne. Le texte était aussi utilisé dans les rituels annuels.
