  Este trabajo tiene como base el proyecto de la Unesco "Políticas culturales y modos de ciudadanía en las sociedades europeas" (MPMC), cuyo objetivo es contribuir a la comprensión de las relaciones entre ciudadanía, inmigración y política local; la interdisciplinariedad es un requisito esencial para comprender dichas relaciones, y entre las múltiples bases disciplinarias en que se fundamenta el MPMC se encuentra la Geografía. El propósito de este artículo, por tanto, es sacar a la luz algunos de los principales temas geográficos relevantes para la investigación del multiculturalismo y de la ciudadanía en las ciudades europeas. El punto de partida de esta investigación es que una persona siempre puede considerarse ciudadano de "alguna parte". Los derechos formales asociados a la ciudadanía en general se relacionan, salvo algunas excepciones, a ciertos territorios o lugares; sin embargo, las ideas geográficas que se manejan en este artículo apuntan hacia algunos espacios alternativos de ciudadanía y de multiculturalismo.

  This work is based on the Unesco project of the "Cultural political and citizenship ways in the european societies" (MPMC) which objective is to contribute to the understanding of the relationships among citizenship, immigration and local politics; the interdiscipline is an essential requirement to understand this relationships and geography is among the multiple disciplinary bases of the MPMC. The purpose of this article, therefore, is to highlight some of the main geographical topics for the multi-cultural research and of the citizenship in european cities. The starting point of this investigation is that a person can always be considered citizen of "somewhere". The formal rights associated to the citizenship in general are related, except some objections, to certain territories or places; however, geographical ideas that are deal with in this article point toward some alternative citizenship and of multiculturalism spaces.
