The role of the third sector in the regeneration of economic and social well-being is crucial within the framework of "inclusive society" as drawn by the European agenda for sustainable growth. Nevertheless, such a role will be marginalized as long as funding comes mainly from public spending or donations by private individuals. Within a middle ground, between social purposes and business income, the authors analyze low-profit and social impact finance phenomena with a view to re-conceptualizing the functions of the different players operating in the three sectors of the economy; thus envisaging a system of interventions based on a new representation of financial interest.
