Medicina indígena tradicional, su enlace con la psiquiatría y la salud Pública

    Revisión de los antecedentes de la atención a los trastornos mentales en México por la medicina indígena tradicional desde la época pre hispánica y como el cruce del pensamiento mágico religioso de los conquistadores se mezcló con prácticas indígenas, formando una atención a la cual aún se acude. La interculturalidad en la psiquiatría surgió de los profesionales de la psiquiatría y la antropología europeos hacia sus colonias y continuó en Norteamérica. La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) y la Asociación Psiquiátrica Americana (APA) incluyeron los “Síndromes ligados a la cultura” en las clasificaciones de los trastornos mentales; Hay asociaciones internacionales y nacionales de psiquiatría transcultural cuya influencia ha llegado a las universidades y centros de investigación. México tiene un enfoque intercultural que conjunta saberes científicos y modelo tradicional. Hay programas y estructuras de salud pública intercultural y salud mental transcultural que aún tienen que desarrollarse efectivamente.

    Review of the background of mental disorders treatment in Mexico due traditional native medicine, since the pre Hispanic time and how the interchange with the magical thinking of conquerors were mixed with the native practice, building a style of care that nowadays is still used. Interculturality of psychiatry arises from the psychiatric professionals and European anthropology to their colonies and continued to northamerica. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Psychiatric Association (APA) have included the “culture-bound syndromes” within the classification of mental disorders; there are international and national associations of transcultural psychiatry, their influence have arrived to universities and investigation centers. Mexico has an intercultural focus that mixes the scientific knowledge and the traditional model. There are programs and public and mental health structures that need to be developed effectively.
