Resumen de La república personificada. La fiesta porfiriana del 2 de abril (1900-1911)

Este artículo estudia la conmemoración del 2 de abril durante la década final del gobierno de Porfirio Díaz (1900-1911). El objetivo de este estudio es doble: por una parte, conocer algunos aspectos de las prácticas rituales de la política durante aquellos años, y, por otra, analizar con mayor profundidad uno de los significados que de forma más clara se identificó con esta efeméride: la idea de república. Por eso, la conmemoración se estudia tanto desde el punto de vista de su escenificación como del de los discursos pronunciados, no solo de los oficiales, sino también de la respuesta que estos recibieron a través de las páginas de la prensa opuesta al gobierno de Díaz. El objetivo es proponer un acercamiento a las distintas nociones en torno a la idea de república en el México de inicios del siglo XX desde la historia cultural de la política.

This article studies the 2th of April commemoration during the last years of Porfirio Díaz government (1900-1911). The aim of this study is twofold: first, to understand and analyze some aspects of the ritual practices of politics during those years; and, second, to clarify the meanings identified with this historical event: the idea of Republic. To understand the meaning that was given officially to the concept, we study the commemoration ceremonies, both in its political ritual aspect and in its speech point of view; but the speeches has been analyzed not only the officers, but also the response that they received from the opposition newspaper of Díaz regimen. The aim is to propose an approach to the discussions on the idea of Republic in Mexico in the early twentieth century from the cultural history of politics.
