Las "ciudades del poder" en la Bética

    Partiendo de la inexistencia para las provincias romanas tanto del nombre como del concepto ac­tual de «ciudades del poder», tras un recorrido por los términos disímiles clarissimae y celeberrumae urbes, así como por la categorización jurídica, se analiza la concepción a este respecto del poder y su expresión en la provincia, los depositarios de aquél y sus atribuciones, la autonomía municipal y el anacronismo de concebir la capitalidad en el sentido moderno del término, para pasar a una re­visión de las ciudades de referencia en la provincia Hispania Ulterior Baetica.

    Starting from the idea that both the name and the current concept of “cities of power” never existed in the Roman provinces, the paper provides a brief overview not only of the dissimilar terms “claris­simae” and “celeberrumae urbes”, but also of the legal rank of the cities. It then analyses: the no­tion of power on this subject and its expression in the province, the holders of this power and their functions, municipal autonomy and the anachro­nism of the notion of “capital” in the modern sense of the word, before moving on the leading cities in the province of Hispania Ulterior Baetica.
