Resumen de Representación pictórica y contenido no conceptual: una evaluación del subjetivismo y sus límites

  En el presente artículo se analizará una de las tesis más aceptadas acerca de la representación pictórica, a saber, el subjetivismo. Esta tesis, sostenida por Peacocke (1987) afirma que antes de cualquier mediación cultural al momento de ver una imagen, hay una mediación estrictamente perceptual. Dicha mediación, además, determina parte del sentido de la imagen y es condición de posibilidad de la mediación cultural y conceptual. Como la percepción es componente esencial de la tesis subjetivista, es necesario elucidar la clase de contenido representacional que rige los procesos perceptuales. Por ello, se evaluará, por un lado, la tesis de que el contenido de la percepción es conceptual, esto es: afirmar que la normatividad de los procesos perceptuales es conceptual. Por otro lado se evaluará si el contenido perceptual es no-conceptual, esto a la luz de la tesis subjetivista. Finalmente se hará un análisis de las ventajas de la tesis del contenido no conceptual y los límites de ésta en la tesis subjetivista de la representación pictórica.

  This paper analyzes one of the most widely accepted thesis on pictorial representation: subjectivism. This thesis, held by Peacocke (1987) claims that, before any cultural mediation, at the moment of seeing an image, there is a perceptual mediation. Such mediation also partly determines the sense of the image, and it is a necessary condition for cultural and conceptual mediation to be possible. Perception, like an essential component of subjective thesis, is necessary to elucidate the kind of representational content that guides the perceptual process. The thesis that the content of perception is conceptual will, on the one hand, be considered, that is: the claim that the normativity of perceptual process is conceptual. On the other hand, the thesis that the content of perception is non-conceptual will be analyzed. This discussion will be guided by the subjective thesis. Finally, the paper will analyze the advantages of non-conceptual content and its limits in relationship to the subjective thesis of pictorial representation.
