    This article introduces two illuminated manuscripts produced at the end of the thirteenth or beginning of the fourteenth century which show different applications of the imagination. One (Montpellier, Bibl. Éc. Méd. H 249) is a Conte du Graal with Continuations. The miniatures, scattered throughout the text, show the values of chivalry and «courtoisie» in a series of successive events. The second (Rennes, B.M. 255) contains a Estoire du Graal, Merlin and part of Lancelot proper. Each of these texts opens with an historiated initial. Using a System of recapitulation, these composite and interpretative compositions look back to a beginning where eternity is juxtaposed with history. In about 1300 the illumination of B.N. Ms. français 343 combines Breton and Biblical times.

    Dans cet article nous présentons deux manuscrits enluminés de la fin du XIIIe s. ou du début du XIVe s. qui montrent différentes applications de l'imaginaire. Le premier (Montpellier, Bibl. Éc. Méd. H 249) est un Conte du Graal avec Continuations. Ses miniatures, disséminées à travers le texte, représentent les vertus chevaleresques, dont la courtoisie, en une série de scènes qui se succèdent. Le second (Rennes, B.M. 255) contient une Estoire du Graal, Merlin, et une partie du Lancelot propre. Chaque texte commence par une initiale historiée. Selon un système de récapitulation, ces représentations composites et interprétatives se réfèrent à des origines où éternité et histoire sont juxtaposées. Vers 1300 l'illustration du ms. français B.N. 343 combine temps bretons et bibliques.
