«Landire», «trimbulare», «potpottare»

    Three new verbal forms are here pointed out and analysed (together with potential derivates), combined by belonging to the same semantic category (animal noises) and by the role played by internet in their birth and diffusion. Particularly interesting is the case of landire or landito of the giraffe (an animal that does not have a characteristic noise) which reveals the new role of internet as a source of linguistic authority originating in 2008 as lexicographical fakes in the Wikitionary and immediately passed on to Wikipedia, from there these two words spread on the web until they appeared in important newspaper texts or literary texts, such as the 2013 screenplay of the Oscar- winning flm La grande bellezza by Paolo Sorrentino (hence the doubt: should the false word landito be recorded in dictionaries?). Also false is the verb trimbulare assigned to the crocodile which has also been used in important texts. On the other hand, true is the potpottare of the ferret (together with the similar words potpot and potpottio), which has a precise referent (the noise of the animal) and structural examples: the suffix -ottare referred to verbs which concern a low and continuous noise (such as borbottare or parlottare) and the repetition on an onomatopoeic basis (like the gloglottare of the turkey)

    Vengono qui segnalate e studiate tre neoformazioni verbali (con gli eventuali derivati) accomunate dall’appartenenza alla medesima categoria semantica (i versi degli animali) e dal ruolo di Internet nella loro nascita e/o diffusione. Di particolare interesse appare la storia del landire o landito della giraffa (animale privo, in realtà, di un verso caratteristico) che rivela un nuovo ruolo di Internet come fonte di autorevolezza linguistica: nate infatti nel 2008 come falsi lessicografici nel Wikizionario e passate subito in Wikipedia le due parole si sono di lì diffuse nella rete sino ad essere accolte in testi giornalistici o letterari di rilievo, come la sceneggiatura del 2013 del film premio Oscar La grande bellezza di Paolo Sorrentino (donde il dubbio: la parola-fantasma landito andrà registrata nei dizionari?) Falso è anche il trimbulare attribuito al coccodrillo anch’esso approdato in testi di rilievo. Ê vero, invece, il potpottare del furetto (con gli affni potpot e potpottio) che ha un referente concreto (il verso dell’animale) e precedenti strutturali: il sufifsso –ottare, relativo a verbi in cui è coinvolto un rumore basso e continuo (come in borbottare o parlottare) e la ripetizione di una base onomatopeica (come nel gloglottare del tacchino).
