A new 200,000 tpa acid-grade fluorspar (acidspar) project in Vietnam is set to have a growing influence on the market throughout the year with many fearing that excess supply could drag prices lower than their current levels of $320/tonne, FOB China.
Across-the-board price rises in fluorspar - both acidspar and metspar - were non-existent in 2013. A sales increase in China in late 2013, prior to China's winter shutdown, was one of the only major events which saw an uptick in prices of about 15%. This followed a surge in exports in September and October as international buyers replenished inventories.
