Resumen de Chinese steel consumption rates to dictate global refractory future

Simon Moores

  • The growth of the refractories market is dependent on whether China's steel producers hit their consumption target of 15kg of refractories per tonne, new statistics from Shinagawa Refractories show.

Steel consumes between 65-70% of refractories produced and Chinese steel producers are the least efficient with their refractory usage. At present the consumption rate is 23/kg of refractories per tonne of steel which shows how much work there is to get to the 15kg level of Germany, Japan and North America.

The electro-fused magnesia will be manufactured in electric arc furnaces at UCM Magnesia's plant in Hull, UK, using high-purity cryptocrystalline caustic calcined magnesia from Grecian Magnesite's Turkish affiliate, Akdeniz Mineral Kaynaklari AS (AMK).
