Resumen de La buena prensa de los ejércitos borbónicos: Una mirada crítica

  Aunque durante el siglo XVIII se fue transformando el Ejército por obra de los gobernantes españoles, sigue habiendo una excesiva carga de elogios hacia los logros obtenidos por aquellos Borbones, particularmente por Carlos III, al tiempo que aún perdura un olvido interesado acerca de la obra de los Austrias del siglo XVII. En línea con las nuevas corrientes historiográficas que están revisando aquellas dos centurias, insistiendo en lo que hubo de continuidad más que de ruptura con la llegada de la nueva dinastía, creemos que hubo, también, una transición militar ya que fueron muchas las reformas puestas en marcha por Felipe V que se basaban en proyectos planteados en las últimas décadas del siglo XVII. Por otra parte, la eficacia de ese nuevo ejército se probará en los muchos conflictos a los que se hubo de enfrentar España. El balance fue mucho más positivo para nuestros intereses en la primera mitad del siglo que en las últimas décadas, en que las armas españolas no fueron capaces de adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos.
