    Christiania and its conflict with Danish institutions: on the convergence between autonomous and neoliberal spaces. – The Free Town of Christiania is an autonomous community located in the centre of Copenhagen, built in 1971 with the squat of an abandoned military site. For more than 40 years, Christiania has fight and has negotiated with Danish institutions in order to preserve its survival and autonomy. A milestone event for Christiania has been the stipulation of an agreement in 2011 which, apparently, guarantees its survival. At the same time, the agreement regulates a number of issues that used to be self-regulated, limiting therefore Christiania’s autonomy. The aim of this paper is to analyse the effects of the agreement. We will argue that the Free Town is becoming an hybrid space combining autonomous governance with “normalized” neoliberal governance.

    Christiania et son conflit avec les institutions danoises: la convergence entre les espaces autonomes et néolibéraux. – La ville libre de Christiania est une communauté autonome située dans le centre de Copenhague, construit en 1971 avec le squat d’un site militaire abandonné. Depuis plus de 40 ans, Christiania a combattu et a négocié avec les institutions danoises afin de préserver sa survie et l’autonomie. Un événement marquant pour Christiania a été la stipulation d’un accord en 2011 qui, apparemment, garantit sa survie. Dans le même temps, l’accord réglemente un certain nombre de questions qui auparavant étaient auto-régulées, limitant donc l’autonomie de Christiania. Le but de cet article est d’analyser les effets de l’accord. Nous allons montrer comment Christiania est devenue un espace hybride qui combine une auto-gouvernance avec une gouvernance néo-libérale normalisée

    La Città Libera di Christiania è una comunità autonoma nel centro di Copenaghen; nata nel 1971 con l’occupazione di una ex base militare, per più di 40 anni ha lottato e negoziato la propria sopravvivenza e autonomia con le istituzioni danesi. Le trattative hanno raggiunto un punto di svolta nel 2011 con la stipulazione di un accordo che, apparentemente, garantisce la sopravvivenza di Christiania, pur regolando aspetti della comunità locale precedentemente autogestiti, limitando quindi la sua autonomia. Scopo dell’articolo è analizzare gli effetti dell’accordo, suggerendo come la Città Libera si stia configurando come uno spazio ibrido che combina elementi di governance autonoma e governance “normalizzata” alle spinte del neoliberismo.
