Sueño y sintaxis ritual entre los wayuu:: análisis de la ceremonia de asülajawaa

    En este trabajo se analiza desde un punto de vista antropo-semiótico el asülajawaa, uno de los ritos practicados por los wayuu, indígenas que habitan la Península de la Guajira, en la frontera entre Colombia y Venezuela. La investigación se basa en datos recogidos en 1998 entre participantes y conocedores del rito. Para la interpretación se apoya en las teorías de Bastide (1976) y Durand (1981) y en la Semiótica de Greimas (1979). Para el análisis, el rito se ha dividido en secuencias, a fin de inventariar sus componentes y reconstruir su sintaxis; luego, en una segunda etapa, se analizan e interpretan los contenidos investidos en la sintaxis ritual. Se concluye que el asülajawaa es un rito determinado por los sueños, que busca impedir, mediante la abstención y la purificación, el cumplimiento de premoniciones negativas y reestablecer el equilibrio social amenazado

    This study analyzes, from an anthropo-semiotic viewpoint, the asülajawaa, one of the rituals practiced by the Wayuu, indigenous people who inhabit the Guajira peninsula on the border between Colombia and Venezuela. The research is based on data gathered in 1998 from participants and people with knowledge of the ritual and is interpreted using the theories of Bastide (1976), Durand (1981) and the semiotics of Greimas (1979) as a basis. For analysis, the ritual was divided into sequences in order to inventory its components and reconstruct its syntaxes.

    Later, in a second phase, contents invested in the ritual syntaxes are analyzed and interpreted. Conclusions are that the asülajawaa is a ritual determined by dreams, which seeks to prevent, through abstinence and purification, the fulfillment of negative premonitions and to re-establish the threatened social equilibrium.
