O artigo describe os primeiros contactos da cidade de Vigo coa aviación e a gran expectación que levantou. Cos rápidos avances técnicos deste novo medio de transporte, Vigo aspira a dispor dun aeroporto, feito que reflicte a importancia e expansión urbana que alcanzara grazas as actividades ligadas ao mar, especialmente da industria conserveira.
Tamén a intensa actividade portuaria foi un argumento empregado para reclamar un contacto aéreo do interior de España cos grandes transatlánticos que partían para América. No contexto internacional xurdiron proxectos, moitas veces utópicos, de liñas aéreas con América nos que Vigo era punto de partida ou de paso. Finalmente o artigo analiza a concesión en 1928 dun aeroporto nacional nas Gándaras de Budiño (O Porriño) e as circunstancias que o levaron a quedar no papel.
This article describes the first contact between Vigo and the aviation, and the expectation raised by this event. The fast technical advances of this new mean of transportation together the urban expansion in Vigo and its industrial development, particularly in the canned fished industry, made it possible for Vigo to aim for an airport of its own. The intense port activity was another of the arguments employed to request an air connection between the centre of Spain and the big transatlantics going to America. In the international context, new projects appeared;
many of them were utopian though, such as plane routes to America in which Vigo would have been the origin or an intermediate stop. Finally, this article analyses the concession of an airport in Gándaras de Budiño (O Porriño) in 1928, and the circumstances that prevented this project from being implemented.
