Accesibilidad a las tecnologías de información y comunicación por los discapacitados visuales

    El presente trabajo tiene como propósito determinar el grado de accesibilidad que tienen los discapacitados visuales antes las Tecnologías de la Información y la comunicación (TIC). Para tal fin se desarrolló una investigación de corte cualitativo empleando una entrevista semiestructurada dirigida a cuatro (4) sujetos claves pertenecientes a la Asociación Zuliana de Ciegos. Los resultados obtenidos señalan que la actitud que tienen los discapacitados visuales antes las TIC son positivas ya que estas les permite la integración al campo laboral y a la sociedad;

    también expresaron que cuentan con algunas herramientas especializadas como tiflohardware y el software Jaws instalado en diversos lugares de acceso. Se concluye que pese al limitado apoyo financiero que recibe la Asociación, los discapacitados visuales logran un alto grado de accesibilidad a las TIC por la vía de diversas iniciativas propias.

    The purpose of this work is to determine the degree of access the visually impaired have to information and communication technologies (ICTs). Research of a qualitative nature was developed using a semi-structured interview directed at four (4) key subjects belonging to the Zulia Association for the Blind. Results point out that the attitude the visually impaired have toward ICTs is positive, since the latter allow them to integrate into the labor field and society; they also expressed that they have some specialized tools, such as tiflohardware and software jaws installed in diverse access places. Conclusions are that, despite the limited financial support the Association receives, the visually impaired achieve a high degree of accessibility to ICTs through diverse initiatives of their own.
