A 5-year-old boy presented with localized scalp alopecia. The lesion first appeared as a small area of erythema 2 weeks earlier and subsequently increased in size, with the development of hair loss. He reported slight pruritus without pain. He had not used any new hair products or topical agents on the scalp. His only medical history was nephrotic syndrome, for which he has received oral prednisone (2.5 mg daily ) and cyclosporine (70 mg daily ) for the past 2 years. He also had a cat at home.
