La filosofia de la ciència que va imperar en els anys quaranta-cinquanta era, bàsicament, un intent "asèptic" de reconstruir i formalitzar teories científiques. El gir sociològic dels seixanta va mostrar que aquesta concepció estàtica i reduccionista de l'empresa científica no era apropiada i no ens ensenyava gaire sobre la veritable naturalesa del funcionament científic. La tasca de la filosofia crítica de la ciència és retornar a l'home el seu instrument (la ciència-tècnica-tecnologia) perquè el posi al servei d'ell mateix.

The philosophy of science that predominated during the 40's and 50's was basically, an asceptic intention to rebuild and give shape to scientific theories. The sociological turning point of the 60's proved that this reductionist and static concept of science was not appropriate and did not show much of the true nature of scientific behaviour/function.
The task of the critical philosophy of science is to return to man his in-strument (science, technique and technology) in order for it to serve man.
