Resumen de CA125 en la evolución del cáncer de ovario

  El CA125 está elevado en el 70-80% de los tumores, siendo un marcador inespecífico para el diagnóstico del cáncer de ovario al inicio de la enfermedad. No obstante, la especificidad para el diagnóstico del cáncer de ovario aumenta si se determina de forma conjunta CA125 y HE4.

  La función de CA125 no está clara, parece que puede inhibir la respuesta inmune y promover la proliferación celular debido a que participa en la señalización celular.

  Los niveles séricos de CA125 se determinan de forma rutinaria en pacientes con cáncer de ovario, siendo un valor indicativo de eficacia de tratamiento y predictivo de recurrencia.

  En esta revisión se resume el papel del CA125 en el cáncer de ovario.

  CA125 is elevated in up to 70-80% all of the epithelial ovarian cancer and by itself, it is unspecific as tumor marker for Ovarian Cancer Diagnosis at the beginning of the disease.

  However, the specificity for the diagnosis of ovarian cancer increases if we determine CA125 and HE4 together.

  To date, the function of CA125 has not been clearly defined; however, it seems to be involved in the immune response inhibition, as well as in promotion of cell proliferation.

  The serum levels of CA125 are determined routinely in patients with ovarian cancer to monitor response to chemotherapy, to diagnose the relapse and disease progression. In this review, we summarize the role of CA125 in the management of ovarian cancer.
