    The development of Ethiopian academic institutions between 1950 and the 1974 revolution was based on the recruitment of foreign scholars. While developing new knowledge in various fields, these scholars built collec­tions for study that quickly became the first step in the creation of a university museum, which then divided into two distinct institutions - the first devoted to mate­rial culture, the second to zoology. The aim of this paper is to shed light on the evolution of these projects that worked as both tools for disseminating knowledge and research, and to promote a conservation policy dedi­cated to the environment and culture. The aim is notably to draw attention to the common roots and subsequent ties that formed between practitioners from the humani­ties and natural sciences on the one hand, and the insti­tutionalization of the concept of heritage in Ethiopia on the other hand.

    Le développement des institutions universitaires éthio­piennes de 1950 à la Révolution de 1974 s’est appuyé sur le recrutement d’enseignants-chercheurs étrangers. Tout en développant des connaissances inédites dans des domaines variés, ces derniers ont construit des col­lections d’étude qui ont rapidement donné lieu à la créa­tion d’un musée universitaire, bientôt scindé en deux institutions, l’une dédiée à la culture matérielle, l’autre à la zoologie. L’objet de cette contribution est de mettre en lumière l’évolution de ces projets qui ont oscillé entre diffusion de la recherche et promotion d’une poli­tique de conservation dédiée autant à l’environnement qu’à la culture. Il s’agit en particulier d’attirer l’attention sur les racines communes et les liens qui s’ensuivent entre d’une part les praticiens des sciences de l’homme et des sciences naturelles et d’autre part l’institutionnali­sation de la notion de patrimoine en Éthiopie.
