En 1935 llegó a Mérida para hacerse cargo del Matadero Provincial, José Fernández López. Durante los siguientes 40 años, este industrial gallego desarrolló en Extremadura, y sobre todo en Mérida, una de las trayectorias empresariales más destacadas del siglo XX. No menos importante fue su actividad filantrópica, por la que adquirió el reconocimiento y cariño de emeritenses y extremeños. Se cumplen ahora 30 años del fallecimiento de este empresario y mecenas tan relevante en nuestra historia reciente.

In 1935, José Fernández López arrived in Mérida to take responsibility of the provincial slaughterhouse. During the following 40 years, the Galician industrialist developed in Extremadura, and especially in Mérida, one of the most outstanding business career of the 20th century. No less important was his philanthropic activity, for what he received the recognition and affection of the inhabitants from Mérida and Extremadura. It is now thirty years of this businessman and sponsor’s death so relevant in our recent history.
