El artículo trata acerca del sentido de vida en la cultura de algunos venezolanos. Se emplea la noción de sentido de vida aparecida con la Modernidad, y la ubica en el contexto de la crisis de sentido. Se trabaja con las narraciones de veintiséis personas, escogidas con la intención de acercarse a diversos géneros, edades, quehaceres y lugares de Venezuela. La interpretación de los textos obtenidos permitió la construcción de tantos sentidos de vida como sujetos, y de seis comunidades de sentido. Una importante conclusión arroja un desencuentro entre unos sentidos de vida agrupados en torno a un deber ser afectivo o moral que se oponen a una visión de vida fundada en el disfrute del presente.

The sense or meaning of life for Venezuelans is the subject of this paper. We use the notion of sense or meaning in relation to the life style that has appeared with Modernity, and within the context of crisis in relation to sense and meaning. Life narrations from 26 different people in Venezuela -selected for the purpose of showing variations in genre, age, work and place- are presented and analyzed. The interpretation of each individual narrative facilitated the construction of as many different meanings of Iife and communities with meaning as there were subjects. An important conclusion was the finding of an apparent opposition between a meaning of life based on affective and moral obligations and an opposing vision or meaning based on enjoying life to the fullest in the present.
