La expansión rápida del maxilar constituye el tratamiento de elección en las alteraciones transversales de origen esquelético. Sin embargo, cuando la capacidad expansora de la aparatología empleada es insuficiente para alcanzar los objetivos terapéuticos, los autores describen una sistemática de reutilización del tornillo expansor, sencilla y eficaz que permite continuar ininterrumpidamente el procedimiento de expansión sin retirar el aparato de la boca.

Generally, rapid maxillary expansion is the chosen treatment for the skeletal constrictions of the maxilla. However, in some cases the expanding capacity of the appliance is not enough to achieve the desired amount of expansion. To solve this problem, a new, simple and efficient technique is described, which allows for the inmediate re-utilization of the expanding screw as well as for the continuation of the expansion procedure without removing the appliance.
