El balneario de Panticosa, indiscutible referente del turismo de ocio y salud a lo largo del siglo XIX y el primer tercio del XX, se constituye también en una de las escasas fuentes en las que constatar documentalmente el paso de los primeros fotógrafos por el Alto Aragón. Entre las páginas de sus libros de registro de huéspedes, además de encontrarnos con algunas de las personalidades más notables de las artes, las letras, la política o la aristocracia de la nación, descubrimos la presencia de relevantes fotógrafos profesionales como el galés Charles Clifford, el francés Jean Laurent, los aragoneses Manuel Hortet y Molada y Toribio Júdez y Ortiz o el entonces fotógrafo aficionado Santiago Ramón y Cajal. Pero, además de con esta fuente documental, la presente investigación ha contado con la generosa colaboración de algunos importantes coleccionistas privados cuyos fondos han permitido complementar la historia gráfica de nuestro establecimiento termal a lo largo del siglo XIX. El estudio de estos materiales fotográficos recuperados, en algunos casos inéditos, ha permitido enriquecer sustancialmente la nómina de fotógrafos activos en torno al balneario con nombres como los de Fernando Guerrero Stolz, Jean Andrieu, la compañía Lévy et ses Fils, Félix Preciado, Lucas Escolá Arimany o el malogrado Lucas Cepero.

The resort of Panticosa, one of the most relevant health and leisure tourism spots throughout the 19th century and the first third of the 20th century, also provides one of the few sources of information about the presence of early photographers in Alto Aragón. In the guest registration books, there are not only names of leading personalities from the world of art, literature, politics and members of the aristocracy, but also names of important professional photographers such as Charles Clifford (Welsh), Jean Laurent (French) an other local photographers such as Manuel Hortet y Molada, Toribio Júdez y Ortiz and the amateur Santiago Ramón y Cajal. In addition to this documentary source, current research has been complemented with information from private collectors through their kind collaboration. These sources together have provided us with a graphical history of our local thermal establishment throughout the 19th century.
The study of these recovered photos, some of them unpublished, has substantially enriched the list of active photographers around the resort, with names like Fernando Guerrero Stolz, Jean Andrieu, the company Lévy and his Sons, Félix Preciado, Lucas Escolá Arimany and Lucas Cepero, well-known for the tragic circumstances of his death.
