Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, notável desenhador humorista e ceramista, também se dedicou à decoração e ao mobiliário, nas últimas décadas do século XIX e início do século XX. Executou móveis em cerâmica, evidenciando-se as mísulas, a luminária e os bancos naturalistas. A moda do retrato fotográfico, nos interiores, levou-o a modelar pequenas molduras. Inusitadamente foram empregues azulejos padrão no mobiliário em madeira, em parceria com o entalhador Leandro Braga e o marceneiro Frederico Ribeiro. Embora influenciado pelo movimento britânico Arts and Crafts, Bordalo utilizou todos os revivalismos historicistas – incluindo o nacional neo-manuelino – e não esqueceu o exotismo oriental. Ainda experimentou a Arte Nova, sobretudo no azulejo. Exemplos paradigmáticos dos “interiores de arte” são o seu quarto no Chalet de Cortiça e a sala de jantar do Beau Séjour

Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, a remarkable humorist designer and ceramist, also dedicated himself to decoration and furniture in the last decades of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twenty century. He made ceramic furniture highlighting corbels, the luminaire and naturalistic seats. Fashion of photographic portrait in the interiors lead him to model little frames. Unusually pattern tiles were used in the wood furniture in partnership with the woodcarver Leandro Braga and the cabinet maker Frederico Ribeiro. Although influenced by the British Arts and Crafts Movement, Bordalo used all the revivals, including the national manuelino revival, without forgotten the oriental exoticism. He also tried the Art Nouveau , mainly in tiles. Bordalo’s room at the chalet de Cortiça (cork) and the Beau Sejour’ s dining room are paradigmatic examples of “artistic interiors”.
