  • SiC Processing said that it had undergone "intensive restructuring efforts" prior to the filing "such as moratoriums with individual creditors", however it has "struggled increasingly with the continuous decline in prices and severe over-capacities in the solar sector".

    The company stated that its parent company, LDK, was in such dire straits at the end of 2012, that it "impacted [Solar Power's] relationship with China Development Bank." The bank had said it would partner with the company to provide construction and financing for solar projects in New Jersey and in Greece. However, as Solar Power experienced cash flow issues and decided to reduce large portions of their operations, focusing instead on "maintaining minimal operating expenses".

    "The quality of the starting crude is essential to the quality of the finished micro-grit," the company told IM, adding: "We are still seeing a lot of emphasis placed on sourcing quality micro-grits because it is important that wafer slicers keep strong yields in order to control costs into the future."
