    Los poemas del volumen El fulgor de José Ángel Valente —lector apasionado de las poesías de San Juan de la Cruz— dialogan con el Cántico espiritual del místico. El diálogo que ambos textos mantienen sorprende porque no evoca lo espiritual de la experiencia sanjuaniana sino todo lo contrario, lo corpóreo. El presente artículo trata de responder a las siguientes preguntas:

    1) ¿Cómo describen, en los textos teóricos y en la poesía, un místico del siglo XVI y un poeta contemporáneo inspirado en sus versos la relación entre el cuerpo y la experiencia interior del hombre? 2) ¿Por qué el amor erótico se convirtió en el símbolo de las más profundas relaciones entre el alma y Dios?, 3) ¿En qué razones puede fundamentarse la tendencia de los artistas contemporáneos a reflejar sus inspiraciones con los textos místicos a través de imágenes del acto erótico?

    The poems from the volume El fulgor by José Ángel Valente —the enthusiastic reader of Saint John of the Cross’s poetry— converses with The Spiritual Canticle of the Spanish mystic.

    This dialogue surprises because it does not recall things which belong to the spirit, but, on the contrary, things which are related to the body. The present article tries to answer the following questions: 1) How does the mystic from the 16th century and the contemporary poet inspired by his works describe, both in their prose and poetry, the relationship between the body and the interior experience of a human being? Why did erotic love convert into the symbol of the deepest relationship between the soul and God? What are the reasons for the tendency of contemporary artists to reflect their inspirations towards the images of erotic acts by the mystical works?
