En este artículo se exploran los debates sobre la democracia en la Argentina de principios del siglo XX. Particularmente, se analizan las discusiones sobre la legitimidad y continuidad del régimen democrático en el contexto posterior a la reforma electoral de 1912, la centralidad del yrigoyenismo en dichas discusiones y las tensiones inherentes a la noción de sufragio universal. Entendemos que la historización del concepto de democracia nos lleva a revisar las creencias y presupuestos que marcaron el recorrido de la historiografía argentina durante las últimas décadas.

In this article we explore the debates about democracy in the early 20th Century in Argentina. Particularly, we analyze the discussions over the legitimacy and continuity of the democratic system in the wake of the electoral reform of 1912, the centrality of the yrigoyenismo in these discussions, and the tensions inherent in the concept of universal suffrage. We understand that the historical reconstruction of the democracy concept leads to revise the beliefs and presuppositions that marked the path of the Argentine historiography during the last decades.
