Resource orchestration mechanisms and the growth of the very small enterprise (VSE) with entrepreneurial support The literature on resource orchestration provides a process-based and complexity perspective for understanding the growth of the VSE with support. However, few studies have focused on the representations of entrepreneurial actors about the managerial and entrepreneurial actions which explain growth. Yet, finer knowledge about the mechanisms underlying the orchestration of resources would be useful to actors and entrepreneurial support professionals facing this challenge. To that end, this article proposes the use of critical realism which purpose is to develop a research design based on the Group Concept Mapping (GCM) as a bottom-up mixed methodological framework. The GCM method is used to produce intercase research representations to examine the conceptual representations shared by entrepreneurial actors owners of VSEs at the growth phase and evolving in distinct support systems ; one in Quebec (NQC = 25) and the other in France (NFR = 15). The intercase results presented in this article contribute in two ways to the theoretical concepts underpinning resource orchestration. First, four self-reinforcing growth-generating mechanisms are identified in line with the antecedents of growth. Second, conjectures formulated by retroduction to the theoretical notions contribute to an articulation of the resource orchestration framework for the VSE with support.

La littérature sur l’orchestration des ressources offre une perspective processuelle et complexe permettant de mieux comprendre la croissance de la jeune TPE (très petite entreprise) accompagnée. Toutefois, peu de travaux ont porté sur les représentations des acteurs entrepreneuriaux au sujet des actions managériales et entrepreneuriales de la croissance afin de l’expliquer. Pourtant des connaissances plus fines au sujet des mécanismes qui sous-tendent l’orchestration des ressources seraient utiles aux acteurs et accompagnateurs entrepreneuriaux confrontés à ce défi. À cette fin, cet article propose l’emploi du positionnement épistémologique du réalisme critique, dont la finalité sert à développer un design de recherche s’appuyant sur la cartographie de concepts en groupe (CCG) comme cadre méthodologique mixte et ascendant. La CCG sert à produire les représentations intercas dans un examen des représentations conceptuelles des actions d’acteurs entrepreneuriaux dirigeants de TPE en phase de croissance et évoluant dans des dispositifs d’accompagnement distincts ; l’un au Québec (NQC = 25) et l’autre en France (NFR = 15). L’étude intercas présentée dans cet article contribue de deux manières aux notions théoriques en orchestration des ressources. Premièrement, quatre mécanismes d’autorenforcement générateurs de la croissance sont identifiés en lien avec les antécédents de la croissance. Deuxièmement, des conjectures par rétroduction aux notions théoriques servent à articuler l’orchestration des ressources dans la croissance de la jeune TPE accompagnée.
