Resumen de La imagen metalingüística como imagen pedagógica en E/LE

En la actualidad existe una notoria asimetría entre la importancia que ha adquirido la imagen como vehículo de comunicación en prácticamente todas las esferas de la vida humana –incluyendo el mundo académico y científico- y el papel que juegan las ayudas visuales en la enseñanza de E/LE. En este artículo proponemos una revisión de las taxonomías existentes sobre el uso pedagógico de las imágenes en el aula de lenguas extranjeras –especialmente en el aula de E/LE– para determinar cuáles son los factores distintivos de cada tipo de imagen y cuáles son sus posibles funciones pedagógicas dentro del aula. El objetivo es definir operacionalmente qué son estas imágenes pedagógicas y, sobre todo, por qué y para qué usarlas. Destacaremos, por último, un tipo de imagen pedagógica cuyo uso y potencial didáctico ha quedado ya comprobado por recientes investigaciones pero que, sin embargo, tiene poca presencia en los materiales de E/LE: la imagen metalingüística.

At the present time there is a notorious asymmetry between the importance that the image has gained as a vehicle of communication in virtually all the spheres of human life –including the academic and scientific spheres- and the role that it plays in the Second Language Classroom; and especially in the E/LE classroom. In this article we propose a review on the existing taxonomies on the pedagogical use of the images in the ASL classroom and the E/LE classroom to discern which the distinctive factors of each type of image are and which their possible pedagogical functions inside the classroom are. Our purpose is to operationally define what are these images and why and what for could we use them. We will highlight, in the end, a type of pedagogical image which use and pedagogical potential has been already demonstrated by recent researches but, nevertheless, remains mainly unknown in the E/LE materials: the metalinguistic image.
