Resumen de eASEAN Task Force and eASEAN Business Cuncil
In the year 2005, the number of Internet users in the world is about one billion, or about 15% of the world population of 6.4 billion. The Internet is the most outstanding example of Information Technology (IT), which is the combination of computers and telecommunications. All countries have been using IT for national development including industrial management. The use of the Internet is referred to as “e” for “electronic”. For example, in alphabetical order, eAuction, eBanking, eCommerce, eDocument, eEncyclopedia, eFinance, eGovernment, eHelp, eIndustry, etc. Countries and groups of countries have been promoting the use of IT. For example, “eASEAN” was established by the group of ten countries, followed by “eThailand” by the government of Thailand. As a matter of fact, ASEAN led the way by announcing eASEAN in 1999, followed by eEurope in 2000, and eAPEC in 2002. ASEAN established eASEAN Task Force before the G8’s DOT Force and UN ICT Task Force. The eASEAN Task Force was the only public-private sector advisory body in ASEAN until it was later disbanded and more or less succeeded by eASEAN Business Council. The author of this paper was appointed Thailand representative in the eASEAN Task Force and later named Chairman of the eASEAN Business Council. He would, therefore, like to present eASEAN Task Force and eASEAN Business Council and their activities in this paper.
