    Objetivo Determinar la longitud y el grosor del pene en varones de Guatemala.

    Material y métodos Se midió la longitud y el grosor del pene en 50 varones tomados al azar, en flacidez y en erección, del pubis al glande, y la circunferencia del cuerpo del pene en flacidez y en erección. En 36 casos se utilizó alprostadil, 20 μg, en una sola dosis intracavernosa, y en 14 casos la erección fue espontánea.

    Resultados El tamaño promedio del pene en flacidez fue de 10 cm; el tamaño promedio del pene en erección fue de 15 cm. El grosor del pene en flacidez fue de 8 cm, y en erección, de 11 cm.

    Conclusiones No hay diferencias significativas con la edad, ni respecto al área rural o urbana. El 56% de los varones está conforme con el tamaño de su pene. No hay diferencia en cuanto a la erección espontánea y la inducida por alprostadil.

    Penile length and thickness Objective To determine the longitude and thickness of the penis in males in our country.

    Material and methods The longitude and thickness of the penis was measured in 50 males taken at random, in flaccid and in erection of the pubis to the glands; the circumference at level of the body of the penis in flaccid and in erection. In 36 cases was used alprostadil 20 μg in only one dose intracavernous and in 14 cases in spontaneous erection.

    Results The size average of the penis in flaccid was 10 cm; the size average of the penis in erection was 15 cm. The thickness of the penis in flaccid was of 8 cm, and in erection was 11 cm.

    Conclusions There are not significant differences with the age. There are not significant differences regarding to the rural or urban area. The 56% of patients are according with the size of his penis. There is not difference with the spontaneous erection and the one induced by alprostadil.
